The GREAT Edward here,Leslie Denning

Happy Friday!

Welcome to this installment of…

Share Your DREAM Friday!
It is with great pleasure that I bring to you today’s Special Guest Dreamer The GREAT Leslie Denning.

I had the pleasure of meeting Leslie on Facebook back in September of 2010 through the Tribe Syndication Association (TSA).

I was immediately drawn to her love for music and children, both a passion of mine, but it wasn’t until recently that we connected and found that we had even more in common.

We both had dreams of being famous musicians when we were kids and although my career as a rock star did not make it out of the garage, I still have dreams of playing on stage some day and our instrument of choice is the bass guitar. Mine is purple and hers is red.

For children, music is something that can help them so much in their early stages of development. I am blessed that we had the opportunity to find amazing people, like Leslie, when our daughter was first born with the same passion for children and their development as she has.

A born teacher and leader in all that she does. Please join me in celebrating Leslie as she shares her dreams with us today.

The GREAT Leslie Denning – Share Your DREAM Friday

Hello, everyone! I’m happy to be here and would like to thank The Great Edward for giving us dreamers the opportunities to share our dreams. I met Edward through Tribe Syndication Association and have been drawn to his optimism and his willingness to help other people.

At present, I’m married 37 years to my husband, James, and we have one daughter who is married and has four children, ages 1, 3, 6, and 13. James and I live on 6.5 acres in the Missouri Ozarks, and we enjoy the peace and quiet of the country with our five cats.

I must have been born to sing, because I started singing almost as soon as I could talk. My mother bought me a record player when I was around three, and I spent many happy hours singing along with my stack of children’s records. I started piano lessons when I was eight and loved having the ability to express myself through music.

As a teenager, even though I was terribly shy, I began to dream of having a career as a singer. However, like most young people, all I saw was the glamor and not the work involved. Although I have spent some time performing with bands and as a solo pianist, I realized that I did not have the iron will that is needed to make it in the entertainment world. And along the way, I discovered that I have the heart of a teacher.

When my little girl was in the fourth grade, I went back to school to get my degree in music education. I started teaching piano lessons to pay for my tuition and upon graduation taught music in public school. My first job was at a very small school where I had every student from kindergarten music to high school band. It was a huge learning curve, but I loved working with the kids and learned so much. However, I learned that teaching in public school was not for me. I went back to private teaching and have taught piano, voice, guitar, and violin at my studio, Second Street Music Academy, since 2001. I also spent a number of years teaching Musikgarten, a music program for children birth to six years old, and developed a passion for early childhood music education.

I became very interested in technology during the 90’s: computers, music software, and more recently social media , YouTube videos and blogging. It occurred to me that I had a head full of knowledge and experience that I could share. I could help parents develop the confidence to make music with their children. I could develop materials to help other teachers to teach.

I also have a passion for preserving our precious folk song heritage, which has kind of fallen by the wayside in the 21st century. Currently, I am combining my interests by making videos and writing publications so that parents and teachers will find it easier to teach music to the children in their lives. My first publication, How the West Was Sung: The Story of the American Cowboy and His Songs, now available on Amazon.com, was developed for elementary teachers and home school parents. My new book will be out in a few weeks. You Can Make Music at the Keyboard, Book One is a book/video/compact disk package that enables parents to teach their preschool children to play simple songs on the piano, as well as learn concepts of beat, rhythm, melody, and more.

In a nutshell, my dream is to teach the world to sing … and play … and rediscover the joy that music can bring.
